SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior libero Leigh Stephenson broke two records this past weekend: the UC Santa Barbara single season dig record and the Big West Conference single season dig record. Stephenson notched 650 total scoops this season.
The previous records, which were both previously held by former Gaucho Emily Hendrickson, were set last season at 613 digs.
Stephenson entered last weekend just 13 digs shy of the records. She tallied a total of 47 over three matches at the Baden Thanksgiving Classic this Friday and Saturday, surpassing the records during the five-game match against Yale on Saturday. The Nipomo, Calif. native had a weekend-best 28 digs in the win over the Bulldogs. Stephenson averaged 5.24 digs per game this season for UCSB.
UC Santa Barbara ended the season amidst a four-match winning streak, including three wins at the Baden Thanksgiving Classic in Long Beach. UCSB finished the year with a 14-18 overall record.
