Roberta Gehlke recorded one of the best seasons in school history as a junior...Named a Second Team All-American for the second year in a row and First Team All-Big West for the third straight year...Only the second player in school history to be named an All-American twice in her career...One of the best all-around players in the nation, she led the Big West Conference in kills (5.05) and digs (4.08) per game...Finished with 555 kills, the third highest single-season total in school history...Also had 449 digs, the seventh highest single-season total in school history...Became the school's all-time leader in career kills when she captured her 1,548th career put-away vs. UCLA in the NCAA Tournament on December 6th...Was named Big West Player of the Week twice during the season...Had double-digit kills in 30 of her 33 matches played...Had double-digit digs in 24 matches...Had career-highs in both kills (32) and digs (25) against top-ranked Long Beach State at the Thunderdome on October 2nd...Broke her own single-match record with 87 kill attempts against Long Beach...Also had 31 kills and 14 digs versus Pacific at the Thunderdome on October 3rd...Led UCSB in kills in all three NCAA Tournament matches...Was also named the MVP of the Red Raider Classic after leading the Gauchos to the championship...Was also named co-MVP of the Judy Bellomo Classic.

Gehlke followed up a stellar freshman season with an even more impressive sophomore campaign...Named Second Team All-American as well as First Team All-Big West...Led the Big West in total kills with 540, the third highest total in Gaucho single-season history...Finished with averages of 4.25 kills, 2.83 digs and .36 blocks per game as a sophomore...Her 4.25 kills per game was fourth on the all-time single-season list...Had double-digit kill performances in 28 of UCSB's 37 matches...Had 15-plus kill performances 14 times, 20-plus kills eight times and 30-plus three times (30 and 31 vs. Long Beach and 31 vs. UCLA)...Not only did she set a career-high 31 kills vs. Long Beach on November 4th, she set a then school record for attempts in a match with 83, breaking the previous record of 80 held by Judy Bellomo, who did it twice in 1987...Was named Big West player of the Week on October 13th after averaging 5.63 kills and 1.75 digs per game in matches versus Long Beach and Pacific.
1996
An outstanding freshman season culminated in her being named the Big West Freshman of the Year...Became just the second Gaucho ever to earn the honor, joining Kim Keys who was honored in 1992...She was also named First Team All-Big West and AVCA All-District...Finished the year with 480 kills, 371 digs and 28 service aces...Her 4.13 kills per game was third best in the conference...Her 371 digs and 3.2 per game average was best in the Big West...Appeared in 31 matches and a team-high 116 games...Led UCSB in kills on 17 occasions...Went over the 20 kill mark eight times...Set a season-high with a 28 kill performance against USC in the championship of the Santa Clara tournament...Other 20 kill matches came against San Diego State (20), Oral Roberts (24), Stanford (23), Loyola Marymount (26), Pepperdine (23), Pacific (20), and Long Beach (20)...Led the team with 24 double-digit dig matches...Had a season best 22-dig performance against Pepperdine.
