Gaucho fans the Men's basketball team has returned to action with a camaraderie of warriors who are in pursuit of greatness in the form of dancing. Whether your interests include the Bosnian "Kolo" dance, Alaskan Kodiak Polar bear dance, Bay Area "Turfin", or Mississippi swing our team offers a plethora of classes when Spring time and March madness arrive.

This year we have set our goals realistically and relevant to our capabilities as a team and we intend to push ourselves however far those goals require.

Along with losing great coaches who will thoroughly be missed, we have gained an immense edge over the competition through the mind-set and work ethic that the new coaches, Danny Yoshikawa and Jonathon Metzger-Jones, have implemented. Coach Yoshikawa, hailing from West Valley Community College, has proven to be lucky find through his new aggressive defense that will take the Big West by storm.

Coach Yosh, as we refer to him, was a player under Coach Williams in his UC Davis tenure. The approach to the season has proven to be very dedicated to hard work and team bonding, and the results have been exposed early. Corrections and tuning will continue to be imposed throughout the season. One of the most prominent implications for this yearıs success was through our tour of Canada in September and the ten days of practice that led up to our departure.

I will put forth an in depth diary of our travels this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled. Further, considering our season ahead I am looking forward to our five starters returning from last year, as well as new additions. Hailing from Chicago, DJ Posley, as well as another Bay area bruiser, Jesse Bird who will be red shirting.

Practice has never felt so productive, we put forth two and a half hours of solid non stop work six days a week. The results have appeared through our pre-conference schedule so far, being 3-1, the direction we are headed is promising, however we must remain humble throughout the year. Our concentration must be focused on finishing the season strong. Activities have been put forth for those exact goals as well. Not only have we met with a nutritionist, who will help us to keep our bodies in tune and healthy for the long run, but we have also taken part in the Meyers-Briggs personality test. This test explains each of our personalities to the team so that we will know how to cope with our differences and strengthen our team chemistry on and off the court. Being that we are around each other everyday for the better portion of eight months straight, I think it is an excellent activity for unity as well as interesting to know for life. I cannot imagine that any other team has taken the steps and put in the hours that we have for the 07-08 year. We are very appreciative that we have such great fans and thoroughly excited about giving it our all this year so that nation wide people will not only know that a Gaucho is an Argentinean cowboy, but we are a darn good hoop squad as well.
